The fig is one of the oldest domesticated wild plants and is now cultivated throughout the Mediterranean region, especially in Turkey. The round figs, with their green to dark purple skin and red flesh, grow on small trees. Turkish figs generally have a thinner skin, but the thickness can vary from variety to variety.
