Kiwis taste wonderful not only fresh and delicious with a spoon, but also dried, and they are very refreshing. Dried kiwis are excellent for snacking. However, they should be avoided in muesli. Because of actinidin, an enzyme found in kiwis, milk can spoil quickly when dried with kiwi pulp.
Although New Zealand is now known as the land of the kiwi, the fruit originally comes from southern China. It wasn't until 1904 that the kiwi was introduced to New Zealand, and years later, for marketing purposes, it was named after the native kiwi bird. Before that, the fruit, which grows on vines, was actually called the "Chinese kiwi." The oval fruit, encased in a fuzzy brown skin, has green, juicy flesh and a universally popular, sweet, tropical flavor.
