Currants are a type of raisin made from the Korinthiaki grape variety. These grapes originate in Greece; the city of Corinth gives the currants their name. The large, seedless, black and red grapes are very aromatic and have a thin skin.
Currants contain potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and vitamin C. After harvesting, they are dried into currants and are then ideal for baking, in nut mixes, muesli, desserts, or as a snack. Their particularly high sugar content makes currants very sweet and delicious.
