Macadamia nuts have a crisp bite, a slightly buttery taste, and melt in your mouth. Compared to other nuts, macadamia nuts have an exceptionally high fat content, primarily of unsaturated fatty acids, and are rich in B vitamins, calcium, iron, and phosphorus.
The five- to six-meter-tall macadamia trees belong to the Proteaceae family and originate from the rainforests of eastern Australia. Today, macadamia nuts, an important food source for the Aborigines (the indigenous Australian people), are also cultivated in Hawaii, New Zealand, South Africa, and California, among other places.
The macadamia nut is also known as the "Queen of Nuts," a title primarily due to its challenging cultivation, which requires no mechanical assistance, its complex processing, and, of course, its exquisite flavor. Macadamia nuts are usually sold shelled because they have an exceptionally hard, thick shell that is not easy to crack. Macadamia kernels can be enjoyed raw, cooked, roasted, or in various other ways.
