The taste of dried mulberries is similar to that of raisins, without leaving an aftertaste. Mulberries are ideal as an addition to muesli or for eating on their own.
Mulberries grow in all temperate and subtropical climates of the Northern Hemisphere and are available in red (from North America), black, and white (both from Asia) varieties, although the species name does not necessarily correspond to the color of the mulberries. Mulberries, which grow on trees or larger shrubs, strongly resemble blackberries in appearance.
Mulberries are very popular because of their very sweet, juicy, aromatic, and intense flavor. Mulberries contain around 150 substances, including alkaloids, essential oils, enzymes, flavonoids, minerals, and numerous valuable vitamins. When dried, mulberries lose their color, but their sweetness increases, so much so that they are even used as a substitute for sugar to sweeten tea.
